1. Event Governance

The Kenneth Kaunda Day Marathon 2026 is organized by Lusaka Fitness Squad (LFS) in accordance with the World Athletics Competition Rules and Technical Rules, and the regulations of the Zambia Athletics(ZA). All participants agree to abide by these rules as a condition of entry.

2. Registration and Entry

  • All participants must register through the official Kenneth Kaunda Day Marathon 2026 registration platform.
  • Entry is confirmed only upon receipt of full payment, unless otherwise indicated.
  • Entries are non-refundable and non-transferable, unless expressly permitted by the organizers.
  • Bib numbers are issued to individual participants and may not be shared, altered, or exchanged.

3. Eligibility

  • Participants must meet the minimum age requirements for their chosen race category, as set by the organizers and World Athletics: 17 years for the 42 km race and 16 years for the 21 km race.
  • Athletes competing for prizes, rankings, or records must meet World Athletics and Zambia Athletics eligibility requirements. For more details visit: https://worldathletics.org/ and https://zambiaathletics.com/
  • Participants must provide accurate personal and competitive information during registration.
  • Participants under the age of 18 must have parental or legal guardian consent.

4. Health, Fitness, and Medical Responsibility

  • By entering, participants confirm they are medically fit, trained, and capable of completing the respecitive race distance.
  • Participation is entirely at your own risk.
  • Medical assistance will be available along the course and at the finish line, but the organizers are not liable for any injury, illness, or medical emergency.
  • The organizers reserve the right to withdraw any participant deemed medically unfit during the race.
  • Differently abled participants may be required to present a doctor’s certificate indicating the disability.

5. Course Standards and Measurement

  • The race course is measured and certified according to World Athletics Road Race Measurement Guidelines.
  • Any deviation from the certified course may invalidate official times, records, or rankings.
  • The official race route maps will be published on the Kenneth Kauda Day Marathon website prior to the event. It is the responsibility of each participant to study and familiarize themselves with the official course as published. The organizers shall not be held liable for any participant who misses the official route, deviates from the marked course, or fails to follow course signage or marshal instructions.
  • The organizers reserve the right to adjust the course for safety or logistical reasons, without obligation to maintain certification if circumstances require changes.

6. Timing, Results and Bibs

  • Official timing will be conducted using World Athletics–approved timing systems.
  • Official results are based on gun time, unless otherwise stated.
  • Organizers’ decisions regarding timing, placements, and results are final.
  • Only performances meeting all World Athletics and ZA requirements will be considered for records or qualifying times.
  • Race bibs are issued to individual participants and must not be exchanged, transferred, or used by any other person. Any participant found to have exchanged, shared, or used another runner’s bib will be automatically disqualified, and their results will be nullified.
  • Participants must wear the official race bib visibly for the entire duration of the race. Any runner who arrives at the finish line without a visible official race bib will be classified as DNF (Did Not Finish) and will not appear in official results or receive a medal.

7. Anti-Doping

  • The Kenneth Kaunda Day Marathon 2026 is subject to the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code.
  • Participants may be selected for testing before or after the race.
  • Refusal to submit to testing, or a positive test, will result in disqualification and may lead to sanctions under World Athletics and ZA rules.

8. Athlete Conduct

  • Participants must follow all instructions from race officials, marshals, medical staff, and law enforcement.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct, cheating, course cutting, or unauthorized assistance may result in disqualification.
  • The use of bicycles, vehicles, personal pacers, or non-authorized aids is prohibited unless explicitly permitted.
  • Athletes must familiarise themselves with the routes and not rely solely on Marshalls, Police and directional indicators.

9. Equipment and Apparel

  • Race bibs must be worn visibly at all times during the event.
  • Footwear and equipment must comply with World Athletics Technical Rules.
  • Use of prohibited performance-enhancing equipment or substances is strictly forbidden.

10. Assistance and Refreshments

  • Refreshment stations will be provided in accordance with World Athletics road race guidelines.
  • Assistance outside designated zones is prohibited, unless permitted by the organizers or WA rules.
  • Assistance in both differently abled categories is not allowed unless by specific permission granted by the race organisers before the race begins.

11. Prizes, Awards and Records

  • Prize categories, awards, and prize money (if applicable) will be determined by LFS and communicated prior to the race.
  • Winners may be required to attend the prize-giving ceremony and submit to doping control.
  • Course records, national records, or qualifying times will only be recognized if all World Athletics and ZA conditions are met.
  • All prize money payments will be processed via bank transfer upon completion of all required verifications and may take up to 90 days.
  • The Organisers will pay Winners only and not engage with Winner Sponsors, Managers or Agents.

12. Safety, Risk, and Liability

  • Participation involves inherent risks including injury, illness, weather conditions, or traffic hazards.
  • LFS, sponsors, partners, volunteers, and authorities are not liable for injury, loss, damage, or death, except where required by law.
  • Participants agree to indemnify LFS and the organizers against claims arising from their actions.

13. Event Changes, Postponement, or Cancellation

  • LFS reserves the right to modify the race format, start time, course, or rules for safety or operational reasons.
  • In the event of cancellation or force majeure, entry fees will not be refunded.
  • LFS is not liable for costs incurred by participants due to such changes.

14. Media, Photography, and Data Protection

  • By participating, entrants grant LFS permission to use photographs, video, and audio recordings for promotional purposes without compensation.
  • Personal data will be collected and processed in accordance with Zambian data protection laws and used solely for race administration.

15. Start Control Cut-Off Time

  • Any runner who fails to pass the start timing mat within 10 minutes of the flag-off will be automatically classified as DNS (Did Not Start) and will not appear in official results or receive a medal.
  • The official cut-off time for all race distances at the KK Day Marathon 2026 is 7 hours (7:00hrs) from the respective official race start times.
  • Any participant who has not completed the race within the 7:00hrs cut-off will be required to withdraw from the course.
  • The organizers reserve the right to remove any runner still on the course after the 7:00hrs cut-off time for safety and operational reasons.
  • Any runner who passes the finish timing mat after the 7:00hrs cut-off will be automatically classified as DNF (Did Not Finish).
  • Runners who are withdrawn or recorded as DNF due to the cut-off will not be eligible for official results, rankings, awards, or records.

16. Accommodation and Transport

  • The participation fee in the Kenneth Kaunda Day Marathon 2026 does not include accommodation or transport to, from, or within the event location.
  • It is the sole responsibility of each participant to arrange and cover the costs of their own accommodation and transport.

17. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Zambia and the regulations of the Zambia Athletics Association.

18. Acceptance of Terms

By registering for the Kenneth Kaunda Day Marathon 2026, participants confirm that they:

  1. Have read and understood these Terms and Conditions.
  2. Agree to comply with World Athletics and ZA rules.
  3. Accept all risks associated with participation.
  4. Agree to be bound by the decisions of LFS and race officials.
